BioRegional is working with businesses, charities and other organizations to help them reduce carbon emissions and become truly sustainable.
The One Planet Companies program provides a market-tested framework and a unique, positive communications opportunity for leaders steering their businesses into an unpredictable future. At BioRegional North America, we believe that the firms that will succeed in the future are those that deliver more value with greater resource efficiency and authenticity in their communications.
One Planet Companies are companies, not-for-profits, and community groups which have formally adopted the One Planet Living framework to help them reduce their impact on the environment.
One Planet Companies act as inspiring examples of sustainability. They commit to providing products and services which help people lead happy and healthy lives within a fair share of the earth’s resources; and to reducing the impacts of their operations to a truly sustainable level, by 2025. Organisations will need to address the impacts of the following key areas and activities:
These exemplary companies have committed to taking measurable steps towards genuine sustainability.
The first company to become an endorsed One Planet Company is B&Q, the UK’s leading home improvement retailer. Read more about their commitment to sustainable business below.
If you just want to use the One Planet Living framework to improve your organization’s approach to sustainability, why not use our free One Planet Action Plan toolkit to develop your own sustainability action plan?
Alternatively, you might want to become a fully-accredited One Planet Company. To do this you would need to develop an approved One Planet Action Plan with BioRegional, and adopt performance targets across each of the One Planet Living principles which will be audited each year. To find out more about the opportunities to become a One Planet Company, contact Ronan Leydon, BioRegional’s Head of Sustainable Business.
Rooted in the science and metrics of ecological and carbon footprinting, 10 One Planet principles are used to structure thinking and inform holistic action. These principles stemmed from Bioregional’s experience of working on BedZED, a pioneering eco-village in South London, UK. Together, the principles provide a holistic framework to help organisations and project teams examine the sustainability challenges faced, develop appropriate solutions and communicate the actions being taken to key stakeholders such as colleagues, the supply chain, clients, customers and local and national government.

One Planet Living is happening all over the world.
Every partner project or organisation in the One Planet Living initiative develops a ‘One Planet Action Plan’ based on the 10 principles. This Action Plan outlines the strategies, actions and targets to achieve One Planet Living. It provides a route map which can be monitored and adapted over time. The Action Plan is made public so everyone can see the commitments being made. As well as an Action Plan, every project or organisation reports annually on progress and publishes their results.
